And can you also please pass along the suggestion that if a left turn signal is not possible, staggering the Princeton Pike traffic (first northbound only goes, then southbound only) would help tremendously. It has always been very difficult to make left turns from Princeton Pike onto Province Line during periods of congestion; you are at risk of being hit by oncoming traffic that is going around someone trying to make a left turn from that oncoming side at the same time. There is zero visibility. Left turners either have to wait until the light is about to turn red and the other side has stopped (so only a few cars can turn in a cycle), or risk a collision. I believe staggering would make the intersection smoother and safer.

According to the Lawrence Township Engineer, this intersection is planned to be upgraded with additional turning lanes. Lawrence Township is just in the initial phases of the project so it will likely be a couple years to construction. The Township received a federal CMAQ grant for this intersection and the intersection of Fackler Road and Princeton Pike for capacity and safety improvements.

I ditto “M”s request. It’s a very dangerous interaction for those turning towards Route 1 from Princeton. There’s poor visibility of oncoming traffic and we always let out a breath of relief when we safely make it through that intersection.

Jane - thanks for seconding the motion. I think we should take D.Stockton's suggestion and contact the Lawrence Township Engineer. Princeton residents are probably the most impacted by this, but perhaps few people have spoken up across township lines so far. Should we start a change.org "stagger the Princeton Pike traffic light" petition? If you can get Washington Oaks residents, I can get Gallup Road residents... Drop a note in my 122 Gallup Road mailbox if interested!

Something absolutely has to be done about this intersection. I get that they have plans to upgrade the intersection in a few years, but it needs a temporary traffic signal NOW, at least until Quaker Road is reopened. There's a school 100 feet from it, there is going to be a bad accident if they just sit on their hands and do nothing, which is what the guy responding above is making it sound like. It is not rocket science and does not take 2 years to put up a temporary traffic signal! Maybe contact the school and ask them to help petition Lawrence Township to DO something about this - the school has to be concerned about the students' safety so close to that intersection.
