Thank you for contacting the Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM). We have noted your request for a sidewalk or ADA accessible ramp.
In the event funding becomes available, a sidewalk improvement project will be programmed for this location.
DTM staff recognizes the need for sidewalks throughout the /city of Tucson. DTM’s goal is to provide continuous pedestrian paths and encourage pedestrian use of the right-of-way in a safe and reasonable manner. The cost to construct sidewalks in areas where they are lacking throughout the City is about $1 one billion if done at one time. Any sidewalk work performed would also require upgrades to driveways and construction of curb access ramps.
Per The City Code, Chapter 25 identifies the individual property owner as the owner and steward of the sidewalk and driveway along their frontage. If the neighborhoods do not have sidewalks and are interested in adding them, they have several options available to them:
1) They can wait until public monies become available,
2) They can construct them themselves.
We will add your request to our list of project sites & for a bike lane. Any extra funding that becomes available for sidewalks will be used to build or repair sidewalks and prioritized based upon the amount of available, their potential and best use, school safety , transportation system access and cost.
