This happens all the time here and it has been reported but nothing is ever done. Those of us who have decided to move downtown to help revitalize the city are not condiered. I have told the hotel that this is illegal and have been rebuffed. I have told bus drivers that their actions are illegal and I have been insulted. Happens during the day and even in the middle of the night. When will someone really assist us in this issue?
Call the PD non-emergency number, 518-438-4000. If the bus or trucks are on the public roadway they can be ticketed. If they are on private property, they are exempt. I found that buses (and trucks) idle all over the city. If they are not on the roadway they're out of reach. Maybe we need to toughen the ordinance. BTW, it should be assigned to the Police Department.
New York State Environmental Conservation Law (ECL) prohibits heavy duty vehicles, including diesel trucks and buses, from idling for more than five minutes at a time. Title 6 NYCRR, Subpart 217-3 and will be enforced by DEC Conservation Officer
Private property does not exempt them from DEC oversight. Diesel fumes travel and impact the whole community. See the Diesel prob with the RR in south Albany. But any oversight is better than none. Thank you and we all hope the APD will have the opportunity to help. ( we know they are busy with other more serious things often).
