Notified About

  • 805 Whitney Avenue New Haven Connecticut - East Rock
Neither we nor our neighbors can currently cross safely to Edgerton Park and Saint Thomas Church on the other side of the avenue. Cars are driving too fast for this residential area (no one is respecting the 25 miles/hour speed limit) and the next pedestrian crossings on East Rock road and across from the Eli museum are too far and no one uses them as a result. We have two children (2 and 5). We see old people, families, people with strollers and dogs cross all the time at this dangerous juncture. We very much hope the city can install a pedestrian crossing and slow down sign for the safety of all. Thank you.
  • 15 Olive Street New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster Square

*Elizabeth Nearing has given us permission to share her story*

Last night, our friend Elizabeth Nearing was in a car accident on her bike. Despite bruises and a severely bent helmet, she's ok — resting, but okay.

Elizabeth was on her way to present at the Pecha Kucha on her work as Community Engagement Manager at Long Wharf Theatre. Coming from Long Wharf, she turned onto Olive Street from Water Street. It was dark, so she was wearing a reflective raincoat with both front and rear lights. She was also wearing her helmet and riding far to the right of the lane.

As she was passing Wooster Street, a car going 25 mph turned into her. Elizabeth's helmet was severely bent and the car's windshield was cracked.

    ---

As a friend of Elizabeth, I am extremely grateful that she is safe.
As a citizen, I am extremely concerned.

Olive Street needs be a safer place for all folks — pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists — to travel safely. To start, there are a few core things that could be implemented:

    -Better lighting for visibility
    -Signage for bicyclists
-A stop sign at Olive and Wooster
    -A protected bike lane

Would love to hear others thoughts and continue this conversation.

  • 1274-1294 Ella T Grasso Blvd New Haven, Connecticut - Edgewood
The splashpad at Edgewood has not worked all summer. This is unacceptable considering the intense heat and humidity we have been experiencing since late July.

Farnam Dr New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - East Rock
I would like to request that Farnum Drive and Park Drive in East Rock Park remain closed forever! There are so many people who cannot use the trails (or are afraid of them) who are taking advantage of using the roads to walk in the park. Jogger, walker, stroller, pets, the elderly, bicyclists...it's amazing! When open, the traffic on those roads is dangerous with many vehicles speeding and driving recklessly. I have also noticed there there is NO DUMPING happening now that the roads are closed. Please consider NOT re-opening those roads to traffic.
  • 149 Eagle Street New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
VOTE if you want the city to plow the snow on BOTH sides of the street!
New Haven's policy of only ever plowing the odd side of residential streets is wacky.
Now that the odd side is more or less clear, we won't be able to park back on the even side for the next storm, because it will be blocked by frozen piles of snow left behind from people digging themselves out.
VOTE if you want the city to have a second day of plowing the EVEN side of the street, when everyone should move to the ODD side.
  • 302-324 College Street New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown
I recently moved from Manhattan to New Haven and was shocked (and a little deafened) by the higher volume of police and ambulance sirens in this city. Why are the sirens so loud, especially compared to a much larger city with high background sound levels? If possible, lowering the volume to be comparable to other cities will improve hearing and quality of life.
  • 25 Science Park New Haven, Connecticut - Dixwell
Please post no parking signs to block 20-30 feet on each side of the driveway. This is a very blind exit that is extremely dangerous.
  • Chapel St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Wooster Square
Dangerous sidewalks on Chapel and surrounding streets. There’s huge areas of root-related upheaves. In some places there’s six or more inches of diffence in height. I have tripped over these and have seen others trip as well.
  • Intersection Of Cold Spring And Livingston Streets New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There have been countless accidents at this intersection (and near accidents). We desperately need speed humps, a stop light, or other traffic calming measures to make this a safer intersection for all the children walking to schools and parks.

29 Tour Avenue New Haven Connecticut - Westville
The preschool at 3 Tour Avenue would like access to the river walk, located next to the playground at 29 Tour Avenue. We would like an opening created in the metal fence along Tour Avenue. This way, we can easily take our preschoolers for walks along the river or over to the playground on Blake Street. We would also appreciate a dedicated crosswalk on Tour from our playground to the river walk. We thank the city in advance for making this happen!
  • Farnam Drive New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
There is a growing homeless encampment (one tent last week, four as of this morning) on the (unofficial, unmapped) trail that runs closest to The Mill River and parallel to Farnam Dr. in East Rock Park
