Last time I reported this, the response was that they were studying the best way to fix the stairs. Not a word since.
Obviously a proper investigation of this and continuing other problems since the construction of this building would have resulted of a conclusion of corruption and/or incompetence within City Hall, the architect, and contractor of the building. So far, no one has been fired, no one has been prosecuted, and no one has been sued.
The one "result" we have seen is that, following the urgent eviction of the Post Office to make way for further extension of the parking structure, that building has stood empty, crumpling, and periodically infested with squatters, for years!
In any honest, open, well-managed organization someone would have been blamed, shamed, and ejected -- at least -- for this fiasco. Please correct me if I am in error for concluding that Vallejo government is corrupt, secretive, and mismanaged.
Thank you for reporting! Staff is aware of the situation, and is actively working on a solution. Currently, a structural engineer has been assigned to determine the exact cause of the damage/failure, and should be submitting a completed report in the very near future. Staff will then work from that assessment to determine next steps. We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue, and understand and apologize for the inconvenience the closed staircase presents.

Second thoughts -- let's leave this case open, and we can follow progress made. Hopefully -- in the very near future - we'll see it reassigned from Parking to the Building Department which, I'm told, is responsible for the building and safety standards for design, construction, use, and occupancy of all buildings and structures within the City of Vallejo.
4 months later. What is the progress here? How embarrassing! This is one of the focal points of visitors to our City. Why is this taking so long?!?!?!?!
After assessing the damage, working to determine the cause of that damage, and working with legal and risk to weigh options for the repair, we sent out a request for proposals for qualified firms to perform the work.
We received a response last week from a firm who is able to complete the repair, and estimate them to be under contract within two week's time. Once the contract has been executed, the lead time for materials is, at minimum, six weeks, at which time the repair can begin. We estimate the work itself to take approximately two weeks. We appreciate your patience as we wait for the materials to arrive.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at allison.mattioli@cityofvallejo.net. As work progresses, I will post updates on the Parking Website, parkvallejo.net, as I receive them from Public Works.
I know that you and I have had several phone conversations; you are always welcome to call or send me an email directly for more information. Thank you.
This existed before your employ (?), the fact that it’s been so long is no secret, and not your fault. I should have been more precise in my comment. You are the only person giving any details on the progress here, so thanks for that.
Just an update on the Grand Stairwell. A Notice to Proceed has been issued, effective tomorrow. DeKoven Masonry will then be able to order the materials, which is at minimum a six week lead time, and then repairs can begin. We will be blocking off a few stalls, likely in Lot A1, for material delivery shortly before repairs begin. Any questions, please let me know.
08/14.. "We received a response last week from a firm who is able to complete the repair, and estimate them to be under contract within two week's time."
10/17.. "A Notice to Proceed has been issued, effective tomorrow"
So if two weeks (in city council time) equals two months, then I guess we can expect to wait another year before the stairs get repaired.
Oh, and how are getting along with...
04/09.. "Currently, a structural engineer has been assigned to determine the exact cause of the damage/failure, and should be submitting a completed report in the very near future. "
Once again: at what point does City Hall incompetence cross the criminal negligence threshold?

Stairs have been broken for months with trip hazards.
Funny. I attended a presentation on the North Waterfront mini-slum development last week. The city staff introduction congratulated themselves on the great contribution to waterfront development made by the parking structure -- didn't seem to know that it was already falling down! Once again evidence of city staff who don't live in, don't know, don't care about Vallejo!
08/14/18.. "We received a response last week from a firm who is able to complete the repair, and estimate them to be under contract within two week's time."
Suggest that City Hall isn't doing its job and "Your comment is being held for moderator approval." Exactly who is the moderator, and who pays their salary?
Allison, Parking (Verified Official)
I don't believe there will be another ribbon cutting, but I do have another update for you all. Demolition was completed faster than anticipated, and pending dry weather, delivery of materials and construction are expected to begin on Monday, March 4.
Never did get an answer to the question: "Who's paying for this disaster to be rebuilt: the architect, the builder, or the long suffering Vallejo tax payers."

Hah! F.A.B.Vallejo, thanks for including this issue number on the other post, I'm stunned it still open....that's thanks to SBot.
Maybe the typo was 6 months not weeks.... and if it was years, it's only going to be 4 more.

Really? I'm a taxpayer, and I ain't laughing.
Again I ask: at what point does City Hall incompetence cross the criminal negligence threshold? Or could corruption be that blatant?
