Description

The long row of Eucalyptus trees and their debris along the "fire road" behind our house is a serious fire hazard. These invasive trees burn easily and throw flames great distances. The area below these trees is a deep layer of dry debris. It would have been a disaster if last week's fire had moved into this area. Lookout Drive, our only access road would have been cut off and once lit, those trees would act as giant flamethrowers above the rest of Glen Cove. Our Seascape HOA and the overall Glen Cove community is still at risk for a devastating fire situation.

Thank you for initiating this Bill. I agree that we have a real and significant fire hazard as long as the eucalyptus trees and associated debris remain in the open space behind our homes!

I agree with Bill’s proposal. The bushes and Eucalyptus trees are a huge source of fire if this happens again. We have been through twice of big fire in 2 years. Now we really concern for the safety of our house and children. Thank Bill for taking an initial step with this!

Update- A work order for some tree work on the Lookout Euc grove is in the planning stages. Once a contract has been awarded to the tree contractor I will update once again.

It has now been over 120 days since we reported this issue. Please trim and remove debris, especially since we have had record drought this winter. Earlier fire season is in store.

Grass was cut last week along the trail and partially cut on the hillside. However, large sections were left uncut, shrubs were not trimmed, and debris remains on the hillside. Also, the areas under the Eucalyptus trees still have large piles of bark.

Trees need to be trimmed every year because they grow fast creating a fire hazard every single year. The City need to take this very seriously.

Eucalyptus trees should be removed period, CalTrans have been removing them all over the state. They are a big fire danger and they exploded and fall after heavy rains and wind, even killed people from falling on them.
