Description
DANGEROUS SINKHOLE AT BUS STOP - W corner of Chapel & Orange.
An area of exposed dirt between the concrete sidewalk and the blue construction fencing has given way and created a hole of unknown depth. The soil is visibly depressed and could easily give way if someone steps on it.

If someone isn’t observant enough to see construction is happening and sensible enough to take caution or to stay away from the area, they may not want to even step foot outside. There are also these big things called cars driving around and all kinds of things potential dangers! Not to mention bumps in the ground!!! Yikes!

In case it wasn't clear, this is at a heavily-used bus stop where people are often crowding the sidewalk and may not be looking where they step when moving out of the way, boarding a bus, or walking past.
Furthermore, at an active construction site, risks like this would be taken care of by the managing contractor. However, this fence is not for an active construction site, it is screening for an abandoned lot. The building that stood there was adandoned for several years and torn down when bricks started falling from it onto the sidewalk. The lot has been empty and unmaintained for several years.
This type of hole indicates that there is a void somewhere below into which the soil is draining. That's BAD. A hole such as this could be nothing and easily filled with gravel, but it can also be hiding something much larger that can collapse the ground without warning. I don't know about you, but I don't expect the ground to cave in underneath my feet on a daily basis.
