This is unacceptable. My son walks to school and uses the crosswalks along with many other children! He also is in sports and clubs after school when there is NO crossing guard and now NO crosswalk! Having a crossing guard is the bare minimm but having the visual crossing is just as important.
All of the paving/painting has been done
and still Nothing has been fixed!?!?!
So our kids have to fend for themselves against ever increasing traffic of Oberlin Rd.
I’m very concerned that this hasn’t been prioritized before school starting!
This crossing needs signs, flashing lights and stop signal to make sure that drivers See this and stop before something bad happens.
Having the utmost safety for our kids against oncoming traffic both during and after school should be the most important part of this project.

Thanks for posting this. Check out ticket #1943627 that I posted just before school started with a very similar issue. I still don't see resolution despite my ticket being closed. Marked cross walks do not seem like a large, time consuming, nor expensive request to make of the city when the request is due to kids walking to/from school. #1943627

Good luck with getting any response from the city via this app. I would call the Assistant City Manager, Michael Moore, 919 996-3070 or Michael.Moore@raleighnc.gov. It took almost 2 years for them to stripe a crossing on Hillsborough St at Ashe where there have been pedestrians hit.

STILL No Marked crossing at the school? Unacceptable. My daughter uses this crossing also, like so many others. Seems like the city would be liable if something happened to a child. I hope they choose to do something before someone gets hurt.
Also, wasn’t it the developer who did the repaving there after their equipment destroyed the street? Seems like they would have some liability too if they didn’t get the markings completed.
Does anyone know if Oberlin Road is maintained by the city or the state (DOT)? If DOT that might explain the city ignoring the issue. I can try to find the right contact for this issue at DOT. The state/city responsibility is random in town and changes from street to street.

Resurfacing was completed on Oberlin Rd yesterday. Final pavement markings will begin to be installed. This crosswalk should be installed today.

The City of Raleigh needs to make this a Priority!
ALL of the other pavement markings have been done for over a week. Bike lanes, sidewalks crosswalks infront of Wayland Avenue.... but this is THE ONLY AREA NOT PAINTED!
So this is a complete LIE. This is a school crossing and it needs not only paint but also the glowing paint and reflectors and pedestrian crossing signs and pedestrian protective cone barriers. More thank what was there before since now you are adding additional housing/traffic for 1200 people in the same block.
The retirement community entrance is directly next to this crossing. How are the kids/ older people supposed to get across the street safely if there is no stop light crossing within 1/2 mile in either direction?

The street has now been painted but there are still no protective cone. Please at least put it back to what it was with protective/reflecting cones, but it would be much safer to have a real street crossing that would stop traffic after the crossing guard it gone. How do we request an actual street crossing?

The same person who is responsible for this is the same person who left elderly and handicapped people stranded because he got rid of their ability to call to schedule pick ups to take them to the doctor, etc. from GoRaleighAccess. He thought forcing the elderly to have to download and use an app from a smart phone would be better for them than calling a number to be picked up. He only changed it after WRAL and WTVD got involved. Same name listed above as the Assistant City Manager.

The street has now been painted but there are still no protective cones. The protective cones are also missing from the crossings at glenwood/oberlin. Kids cross here as well! EVERYTHING else it done so WHY is protecting the pedestrians and children not the very first thing to have fixed?
The city needs to escalate and FIX these crossings immediately

You need to write the Mayor, the Council, cc: media and address the Assistant City Manager who is responsible, this app is surely not that way.

I drove by last night and the safety cones are back in place and crosswalk markings are done.
Thank you to the city of Raleigh for responding quickly and for prioritizing our kids safety.
This issue can be closed. However I still have questions about lights and actual pedestrian crossings with those lights. Who can address those or reach out to me directly. thank you again
