I'm pretty sure those rumble strips were there LONG before you . Here is a tip. Don't move next to a highway then complain about the noises associated to it .
DOH - this noise pollution impacts older neighborhoods as well. I live more then a mile from the rumble strips and can hear them all night long. Maybe they made sence at the time they were installed, but now there are more modern alternatives not to mention a whole lot more people who live in the area and travel that road. I am in favor of looking at the alternatives.
These strips are intended to warn drivers that the limited access highway is ending and to prepare for cross traffic. They are a safety device that may have saved lives.
These rumble strips are designed to wake people up who fall asleep while driving, and now days who are distracted using cell phones ect.,the fact that you are hearing them indicates the importantance of them being there. They are there for safety, and they will not be removed same as a stop sign or traffic light will not be removed because it annoys someone else! Learn to live with them!
Save lives. Did you fail to see the memorial at the end of the stretch just past tha rumble strips? Why aren't their rumble strips at the other end of 422 before 76 or down near Exeter where conditions are identical?? I have to agree with the folks who live in the area. The road noise is bad enough let alone 3 sets of rumble strips...
To clarify the Exeter comment. Heading eastbound on 422 just before you are forced to enter 422 business and stop at the new stop sign. Is this not nearly identical to 422 west bound I'm douglassville? No rumbles here. How about 176 before the turnpike. 176 has a speed limit of 65 and there aren't any rumble strips there either. Their original intention has been lost once the light at river bridge road went in.
I am 27 years old I remember being about 5 going over those strips in my poppops vana nd we would yell WHIPPEE!!!This is not a new problem so get over it!
I guess the sound of Ambulance and Firetruck sirens will be a better noise to hear. At least that will only occur a few time a week. And let's not forget the sound of crumpled metal and tires screaching!!
I can hear those stupid things over a mile away - talk about noise pollution - but you're right, they will never take them out. I do love the fact that there are still accidents even with them there. Maybe if people went the speed limit (45) before the turn these wouldn't be needed. Rush Rush Rush... Heck there have been how many accidents at river bridge road even with the new traffic light there.
According to the noise ordinance 233 in Amity, if the sound level exceeds 62 dB between the hrs of 10:00PM to 6:00AM it is in violation and can be penalized $1000,00 for every offence plus imprisonment. Wonder just how loud those annoying things are?
