About 25 yrs ago, I lived there and requested a Stop sign to be put on Beechwood Terrace, coming from Hooker Avenue. This way, you would have to stop before making the left turn to speed up Underhill. Well, a sign was put up, but at the end of Underhill at Beechwood Terrace. That didn't solve the problem because they usually come from Hooker Avenue not Cherry Street.
they come pretty equally from both ends. if cars are coming down underhill from cherry, they speed down the incline at the cherry end, reaching over 40 mph by the time they reach the stop sign at beechwood terrace, and often they don't stop at all. if they are coming from beechwood terrace, they speed around that corner onto underhill, and one can literally feel the speed ... like the wake of a boat. we've already had one car plow into a neighbor's fence. with no less than 15 kids under the age of 18 living on beechwood and underhill, it's just a matter of time before something far worse happens because some unthinking driver thinks shaving 30 seconds off his commute time is worth it.
Beechwood Terrace and Underhill Ave are neighborhood streets that have become a raceway for people speeding through to avoid the lights on Hooker Ave. One car drove so fast she lost control and crashed through the fence of a home on Beechwood Terrace - landing in their yard - only feet away from their child's swing set.
Neighbors have even posted homemade signs asking drivers to please slow down - to no avail.
When residents are making their own signs begging drivers to be more careful - it indicates an obvious problem.
