I find it insulting that our VPD ignores state VC as well as our on laws. This vehicle has been left abandoned with the drivers window either left rolled down [or hiding that it's broken out] while it was raining here. This must indicate they will wait until someone finds parts worth stealing and starts stripping it as happened with a minivan a month ago on Meadows.
Ref: An abandoned vehicle is defined by California Vehicle Code Section 22651 as one left parked or standing upon a highway for 72 or more consecutive hours. By law, abandoned vehicles can be impounded.

We just don't have the staffing to put a red tag on a vehicle that has been legally parked for less than a week and that is currently registered. 22651(k)VC does not define a vehicle that has been parked for more than 72hrs as an abandoned vehicle. That section only authorizes the towing of of a vehicle if in violation of a local ordinance. The Vallejo ordinance requires the vehicle be given a 72hr warning tag, which we then have to return to the vehicle at a later date to see if the vehicle has been moved/driven before we can consider towing the vehicle.
We currently have over 2,000 abandoned vehicle requests that are being checked on by our part-time Police Cadet. We receive about 400 requests each month.

OK- now it HAS been a week. Should I redo this when it's been 2 weeks? A month?
You would do yourself a favor if you did not mark it as "unfounded". It's definitely not unfounded. I appreciate your issues [I spent decades with similar situations] but kissing this off encourages non-legal resolutions.
Seriously- give us a clue what standards citizens are supposed to adhere to and you will [hopefully] discover that your RPs are more understanding. The VPD website has little to do with reality.
