the city engineer told me new signs were ordered and better placement,more visible to cyclists over 100 days ago! after witnessing the incident yesterday i don't think a sign will insure public safety! PLEASE consider a ban to bicycles as the fix here. there are more places to ride and enjoy vallejo than are safe places for seniors who use this area to walk!

Censored again. Why do we even bother. Vallejo is governed by unions, and real estate developers.

New larger signs are on order and will be installed when they arrive. All incidents regarding pedestrian versus bicycle need to be reported to the police department. They provide the enforcement regarding right of way issues.

David Y. you know V.P.D. won't respond to a call regarding bicycles behaving badly unless shots fired!think outside the box for a moment. if one of your elderly family members were struck and injured by a speeding bicycle on a pedestrian path would you take action then? I want you to contact the manufacture of the new signs you claim were ordered and give us an arrival date and a projected date for installation TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have requested the installation date from our Maintenance staff, and will forward as soon as I hear from them.

If there are no reports to VPD, they will have no reason to go out and no ability to question/detain anyone who fits the description provided in citizens reports. Larger signs in combination with the reported incidents provides the ability for VPD to respond and enforce the signage in place.

We can only hope! I truly feel the safest and best plan would be to create a bike free zone from VYC to the Mare Island bridge. Then VPD would have a positive effect and a stronger response! They didn't come or respond in 2010 when my dog who was on a 3 foot leash was run over and severly injured by a bike rider! that person rode away and left me with over $1,000.00 in vet bills.

Bicyclists are consistently the most self-obsessed and abusive road users. Always ready to criticize motorists for aggressive behavior, they happily ignore the rights of other road and sidewalk users. Bicyclists openly ignore traffic lights, crosswalks, and even one-way streets.

Mare Island Way has both sidewalks and bike lanes. The only sensible solution to these conflicts is to enforce the separation, banning bicycles from sidewalk, citing and fining those who break the rules.

None of these require waiting for signage just a big stencil and lots of sidewalk to paint on.

this issue still l has not been resolved in any way! I was hopeful signs would help but why should bicyclists be any more considerate than citizens=they are not! A bike free zone is the only way to insure pedestrians a truly safe area to walk
Huge numbers of seniors walk at the waterfront,go down there and talk to some people about their issues with bicyclists speeding past them! Ban bikes and scooters!

Guess we're all just wasting our time. Here's a suggestion to clear up this and other issues. Let's post...

If we do ban bicycles, who is going to enforce the rule of law. This is Vallejo where law of the jungle is the rule

Artsem, the bike free zone i suggested is only 1/2 mile long! bur your right our city is disfunctional in every way.
